dear all,
i just have ordered HEK293T cells from openbiosystems,  Catalog number: HCL4517

in the manual they recommend certain FBS type (Thermo Scientific Hyclone No.: 30014.03), but the minimum amount that can be ordered is 100l and i will never use it off, since we actually just plan to include the cells in our cell line library. My question is: have you experience with this type of cells? could you recommend another lot of FBS? or do you know how to get a trying exemplar of the recommended one?

HEK293T are not very sensitive to the kind/batch of FBS that you use. We even use NCS, that works fine as well, the cells still grow very well. Just use your usual serum should do it.

It's also not unusual to test serum batches before you buy them. That is, you can ask them to provide you a "sample" of that particular serum. So you can try it (compare to your normal serum). And then you suddenly realize that it's not good at all, and don't have buy the 100l.
