Hey you guys!some of you may have known me before elsewhere.
Here I came up with another question:Should I take some androgenic steroid?
The reason that I think androgenic steroid may be helpful lie in the fact that I'm a 24 yrs guy with a facial look like a senior middle school student, which bothers me a lot when I imagine the feeling that girl that I'm interested in may have when I run after her.
Moverover,I'm generally not musculine enough.
I'm a extremely slim person (55kg/173cm) with a neglectable muscle mass.
Besides,my skeleton is incredibly thin, especially at the wrist, which is at the everage level of girls' if not below it.
Together with my smooth and delicate skin with almost no hair on the shank,I'm very reluctent to wear T-shirt or pants in summer, which will give my secret away.
And it's not hard to imagine,I'm a strengthless person though I haven't test my durability on sex.
So basically I'm a person who lack self confidence, who thought himself is not good enough to run after girls.
Apperently I want to change this situation, but I don't think physical exercise will really be helpful, since I think this mainly is a genetical issue though it may not serious enough to be considered as a disease.
So I guess it might have something to do with my hormone level.Do you have any suggestion?
Is there any diagnosis I can take?and do you think androgenic steroid will be helpful? Is there any side effect as you know?Is it expensive?BTW I'm in China as a postgraduate student in biology.
Thanks !

If you think there is something wrong with your hormones: go see a doctor to check it.
If that turns out ok: then its ok...

You watch too much american movies where the hero is some steriod bodybuilder type.

Steriods are a no go for smart and normal people.
(unless they need them because they are sick).
(those guys that take them... most often they take them because they think they will feel better taking them, but in the end... they are screwed...)

BTW: building muscles asks for training... and you better start with training. And your physic (how you are born) allready determines how you will look when training. If you are small, tiny (small bones, long muscles in stead of short, bulky ones, you will never become a bodybuilder heavyclass types.. think about boxers: there is a reason why they have weightclasses.. people are just born like that... or take jackie chan or bruce lee... I mean: those guys are strong, well muscled, but they will never look like Jay Cutler or any other drugstaking idiot that is tiered after 5 stairs... (keep in mind that most of those bulls are absolutely not in good shape...)

There is no point in trying to change yourself with drugs.

PS. reading this post and the previous one, I think its a mental problem you have. You seem to have low self-esteem and some sort of "being shy". I think you are somewhat of a negative person... You need to grow some confidence and realistic view on the how people (girls) think. Not all girls what the bodybuilder type dude with big muscles but tiny testicles/penis due to the use of steriods...

If I was you I would start doing some sport: running, do some powertraining (just at home, no need to go to the gym, push ups, sit ups etc...).Just try to do some sports, produce some endorphines, see what kind of progress you make, it will make you feel better.
And if needed, go see a pshychologist or someone you talk too....

If this is the case I guess is not just his problem... but a big social problem...

What's a "typical chinese otaku", Adrian? I know the japanese meaning...an obsessed fan of manga, video games etc. so in relation to the chinese, what does it mean?

@ AllenChiu: pito gave some pretty good advice that you may wanna consider esp about getting psych counselling...improving your diet and doing some exercises might also help.

You are right,I have low self-esteem,not only because my physical situation but also because my experienments/projects.
I have a feeling of fucking around for more than years here, without a promising project or any thing publishable.
Although it's not all my fault to have this not so tractable project(in other word,it's just not very rational with respect to our lab equipments and focus, meanwhile I think the focus of our lab is not very meaningful too but maybe just tractable).
But most of other people do have done some decent works with some of them already had their papers recepted and are going to pursue PhD in the US(well, without any foreseeable publication(I'm a co-author of a paper on Nucleic Acids Research maybe partly out of the mercy of my mentor),I have already committed myself here for a PhD,with another 2.5 yrs from the theoritical due date. All I can wish is probably a post doctor in the US while I will be 27 yrs then if everything goes on well).Besides, the situation is not very optimistic here to find a good job in biology ,since I have no advantage to compete a research job in university with those with PhD degree oversea.
Well,I guess I have murmured a lot.That's my situation.

Thanks a lot.
I think the meaning of otaku here is like that in Japan.
While in regard to me,I spend a lot of time on browsing something knowledgeable or funny on www.renren.com(like a Chinese version of Facebook) and share them,of course I will do my experienment and paper reading too...

My definition is according to Baidu:

Chinese otaku 宅男 (house-male) according to baidu: http://baike.baidu.com/view/300843.htm
on top of general information regarding otaku, the Chinese otaku is quite lazy, unproductive, addiction to internet even not doing anything online...etc. Many of them (not all) very obsessed in japanese AV (fantasy about eroticism, SM, kawaii girls.... unfortunately). So of them is very good hardcore gamer, but generally all of them were "keyboard heroes"... they are lots of such "species" in my country. I'm not sure the situation in China or Taiwan.

Japanese (ori) otaku 御宅族 (royal-house-citizens) according to baidu: http://baike.baidu.com/view/436.htm
Sounds more like a geek than just manga/anime lover, they know something in very deep, able to source information very quick. They usually host scanned manga online, provide translations to foreign reader etc.

LOLx... I'm 27 now and still not yet complete my master. You are just too young my friend. You should not worried too much about your physical situation. As long as you are healthy that is enough. Stop worshiping Arnold Schwarzenegger for heaven's sake. And I think is normal for you not getting a girl friend in China, as I remember correctly, Male are too much outnumbered female there. Is not your fault.

My lab situation is not much better than yours. We lack of equipments and technological support,as well as focus and experience. but then I will certainly do whatever it takes if I'm going to be co-author in Nucleic Acid Research.

Go out play some sport.... no Wii-ing though. Thats not SPORT. Get some friend involved in the activity too, so that you can motivate each other. You are getting something out of this, try to get more.

Ameya,
You got me pawn.... :P You must be thinking even if I have to bribe to become a co-author, i will still do it to make it happen?... well, probably. ^_^... ok just kidding.

I mean he said that he had a not so tractable project, not very rational with respect the lab equipments and focus, the focus of the lab is not very meaningful... but he managed to become a co-author in NAS, even if is out of mercy of his mentor... but hey, his mentor put his name there because he had involved, right? if the quality of the work is not there, will the paper appear in NAS?

My lab is not a well equipped lab in terms of facility and technical knowledge. Our focus is not clear either. That's why I say if there is anyway I make make my work published in journal NAS (forget about nature or science), I will definitely do my best to make it happen considering all such situations (we don't even have a PCR machine in lab). I don't even dare to ask my boss to submit my work to any journal like that....

That's the reason I'm trying to let allen understand, with full of respect, he shouldn't think of his work not promising. My lab never have a paper in NAS, mostly was published in JCM. If his lab managed to put a paper in NAS, I would say his lab is to be considered as the state of the art... and shouldn't be thinking his project is not significant.
Expecting the world to treat you fairly because you are a good person is like expecting the lion not to attack you because you are a vegetarian.
