If you don't know it, then ask it! Better to ask and look foolish to some then not ask and stay stupid.

I use free version of
Ad-aware + Trend micro Browser Guard, enable firewall.

Previously I installed RU Botted in my laptop.

Install as well Hijackthis for infections diagnosis. and use McAfee Stinger for some hard remove virus. I used ComboFix as well in my old laptop. Regseeker is another must have tool as well.

There is also another good tool: Runscanner, similar with Hijackthis (never use before)

Hope this helps.

Adrian

If you use agv in combination with spybot (or adaware) and you use cclean once in a while: you should be fine.

Al those others that Adrian speaks off, they are good, but not really needed if you have no computer problems.
Hijack this for example: you cant use it if you know nothing about computers.
Or stinger for ex. is also a (free) tool to use when your general virus scanner has failed...

McAfee Stinger is a remover "specific" for some virus. Yes is free. However it is not antivirus that you wanted: it does not provide protections or real time scan etc.

Free antivirus like AVG, Avast or Ad-Aware is good choice to have.

My vote is also for AVG. It is lighter and faster than others and I think that it doesnt consume so much system resources.
