JOB FUNCTION/PRINCIPAL DUTIES: · Maintains, operates and improves the Cell Culture Development Reactor Lab Facility (operate and troubleshoot medium scale cell culture reactors and harvest processes), equipment and procedures.· Provides requested material for MCCR&D, DPD, Pharmaceutical Technologies, and/or preclinical studies in timely manner.· Coordinates and directly performs requested cell culture processes development runs in collaboration with other MCCD staff.· Trains all MCCR&D staff with regard to Development Reactor facility use.· Ensures proper documentation of Cell Culture Development Reactor facility activities, for data transfer to process development groups and to enable smooth transfer of technology to BTO and WSO.· Evaluates and develops new and existing technologies in collaboration with other BPD staff.· Represents MCCTD group in cross-departmental teams addressing enhancement efforts for the Development Reactor facility, equipment, and Distributive Control System (DCS) as well as other facilities engineering projects.· Participates in the selection of optimum experimental conditions for MCCD scientists through interpretation of data· Supports and/or leads harvest process development efforts for biopharmaceutical agents.
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATIONS: · CLASS 3 · A minimum of 6 yeare experience in relevent industry or, BS/BA in engineering or lifesciences with a minimum of 4 years relevent industrial experience· Thorough knowledge of mammalian cell culture, large scale stirred tank cell culture equipment/harvest equipment, and process technology from thaw and media preparation to cell separation.· Excellent troubleshooting/ problem solving skills.· Good organizational skills to plan and execute multiple tasks· Team oriented· Knowledge in cGMP procedures and documentation is a plus.· CLASS 4/5C - In addition to the above· Detailed understanding of own discipline equivalent to MS with several years experience, preferably industrial· Knows how to look for and apply new process technology and adapt them to relevant research and development efforts in MCCR&D· Ability to supervise as well as work with minimal supervision· Ability to analyze, optimize and troubleshoot experimental procedures
