As you might know, there are protocols available for making collagen type I gels. I am currently using the one from BD Biosciences(add 10XPBS and water, and neutralizing using 1N NaOH). I have fine-tuned this protocol and can make collagen type I gels/fibers. However, I am now trying to make collagen type III gels. Being an EE student, I have limited knowledge in biochemistry, and do not know how to proceed from here. I havent not found any article that makes collagen III gels in a simple way (I mean something close to the current protocol of making type I gels). I know that the collagen molecules start polymerizing under neutral pH. So in principle, it seems like I should start with the same procedure as type I, right?. Any advice/suggestions are greatly appreciated. Please reply at your earliest convenience.
