You are correct in asking for a copy of the package insert from the manufacturer BEFORE you spend any money. The package insert should contain:
Of course the methodology and procedure BUT should also have....
1. Information on the range of the dose response curve.
2. Sample type for testing and storage of the samples before testing.
3. Inter and intra assay %CV
4. Stability/storage information.
5. Method comparison study (compare results to a reference method(s)).
6. Linearity and/or spike and recovery study.
7. Specificity, sensitivity, and interfering substances.
You should inquire about any commercial controls that could be used to verify performance.
Hopefully your current source and any suggested to you can provide some if not all of this information prior to purchase. If not...find another supplier. If you can not get information for 1-7 you have to seriously consider the quality of the product you are purchasing...or have to validate the product for yourself.
