what happen to crystal after hit with X-rays

I am wondering, when crystal is put into the laser beam, one get diffreacted data, but does crystal remian intact after the hit, is it damage by the x-rays. is it wasted?????

the X-rays are not damaging to the substance, usually - the diffraction is due to the interaction between the atoms and the x-ray particles/waves (photons essentially), as in the double slit experiment.
