what is the difference between the usually used MetOH and the HPLC grade one ?

hplc grade is supposed to contain less uv absorbing contaminants.

exactly. but, keep in mind that the solvents used have their own intrinsic uv absorbance which precludes their use at lower wavelengths (eg-<210nm).
