Hello everyone,

I am trying to characterize the promoter regions of some genes of interest, I've used some tools (found at Softberry) to define the presence of transcription factor binding sites. Given that some putative binding sites on both strands are found, my question is: do transcription factors have strand specificity? In other words, if I've found a binding site on the strand opposite to the direction of transcription, will the binding favour the transcription of the gene of interest or not?

Thank you for your help

Marco
