[miRNA man]

I've just gotten another paper accepted and my PI said that I'm ready to start writing my dissertation!! I will be defending my dissertation next May but will stay in the lab until July/August to finish up a few things. I was wondering if anybody can give suggestions as to when I should start applying for an industry postdoc position though?  How far in advance should I start applying? In academia a lab could keep a position open for you, but I'm not so sure about industry. I would hate to apply now and get a nice job offer but have to turn it down because they want me to start too soon. Thanks for any help you can give!
