A "law" developed by Parkinson in the 50s which is still worth knowing, since the situation it is describing is still in full force, especially at universities Posted Image :
Parkinson's Law

Bureaucracy growth is explained by two forces:
(1) "An official wants to multiply subordinates, not rivals"
(2) "Officials make work for each other."

Parkinson notes in particular that the total of those employed inside a bureaucracy rose by 5-7% per year "irrespective of any variation in the amount of work (if any) to be done".
(from wikipedia)

Summing up months or years of work in one (funny) sentence: LOL my thesis

Examples:

"Sunburned worms are strong. Sometimes."

Biology, Warren Wilson College.
Effects of pretreatment with UV-A radiation on C. elegans exposed to copper (II) sulfate: Possibilities of cross-adaption response

"Turns out, bugs will try to have sex with almost anything."

Biology, The University of St Andrews
The causes and consequences of reproductive interference in the Lygaeidae

A very weird graph I just came across on Shakespeare's tragedies.

Il dort. Quoique le sort fût pour lui bien étrange,
Il vivait. Il mourut quand il n'eut plus son ange;
La chose simplement d'elle-même arriva,
Comme la nuit se fait lorsque le jour s'en va.
