CHO-K1 is a subclone of the parental CHO cell line, which was derived from the ovary of an adult Chinese hamster. CHO-K1 cells require proline due to the absence of the gene for proline synthesis. it is a adherent cell and grows if hams f12 or dmem. some other lines with different growth properties are derived from this line for example auxotrophic mutant for DHFR gene i.e DG44 or DUXB11 cho cells or cells adopted for suspension or serum free growth which needs different medium.

Hi Sara

I have a question i relation to culturing DG44 cells. When you mentioned that you need to use a different medium to support these cells what type of medium are you refering to? I am assuming that it requires folic acid? Are there any other components that are requried to support the growth of this cell line?

thanks

For DG44 CHO cells you need a media supplemented with hypoxanthine and thymidine (HT)
