For example for the system backup, Acronis offers at the moment a free download for Acronis True Image 10. It is a quite reliable and known program that earns good ratings from the users.
You have to register (name, email, computer magazines you read) and get a login key and key for the installation. Then you can download True Image and use it. Normally it is best to do it before the OS is dead or infected or littered with additionally programs.
