Where to Start:

Contact information:

Instrumentation: The ABI Prism 7900HT Sequence Detection System is located in the DNA Services Facility A-310 College of Medicine West (CMWT). Currently 96-well and 384-well micro-plate formats are supported. This system supports three types of assays: quantitative assays, allelic discrimination and plus/minus assays. Sign up for the insturment by contacting the DNA Services Facility at (312) 355-0679 or email at oligos@mail.rrc.uic.edu

Software availability: Both the Core Genomics and DNA Sequencing Facilities provide computer work stations supplied with software packages for data analysis (ABI PRISM SDS2.1) and for primer and probe design (ABI PRISM Primer Express). When designing only PCR primer pairs, other general primer design programs could be used such as Primer Quest available free of charge at: http://biotools.idtdna.com/primerquest/ and Primer Select by DNAstar (Madison, WI). Both of which are available at Core Genomics Facility computer station. Please refer to the section Primer and Probe Design for recommended guidelines.

Reading Materials:
All background information covering real-time PCR an end-point assays theory, applications, set up, and troubleshooting is available at http://www.appliedbiosystems.com. Hard copies of these materials are also available at both Genomics and Sequencing Facilities. A short description of the methods, theoretical introduction and and tips for experimental design and data analysis are available through the links on the top of this page.
