why balancing for centrifuge - (Jul/30/2005 )

Hey all
Why do we need to balance our tubes when using a centrifuge?

Thanks smile.gif

since the centrifuge will get damaged otherwise by resulting imbalance forces

Awhile back there were DVD labels that you could print out and stick onto burned DVDs. DVDs spin pretty fast and, since 99% of the time people would not stick the label directly in the center of the DVD, the DVDs would essentially wobble and misread. This is the same idea with a centrifuge; you want an even distribution of weight to prevent wobble during spin. A centrifuge, however, spins much MUCH faster than a DVD and is much more expensive than a DVD player.
