I am establishing stable cell line right now. My cells are HEK293 cells and I use 400ug/ml Geneticin. I see a lot little bugs in the medium all the time. Doesnt look like fungus or yeast either. Look like that they are growing. They look like bacteria, I think. But they dont grow fast like bacteria since my cells are still fine and there is no cloudy or smelly. Is that possible?

i don't think they are bacteria, because if they are bacteria, you are not supposed to see them under normal microscope. Do the bugs have 'fingers' or move around?

Most of them just sit there. I did see one is moving or it is just floating.

have you thought about the possibility that the bugs are just scrap from cells that are not transfected and die from Geneticin?

They all already in the geneticin medium for more than one month. I think only geneticin resistant cells are alive.
