Better Molecular Biology Reference: Molecular Cloning vs. Short Protocols - (May/19/2008 )

I really think I need to buy a set of molecular biology reference books for my lab. In my old lab they used Maniatis, which is now the book by Sambrook (Molecular Cloning: A Lab Manual). However, some people seem to prefer the book by Ausubel et al. "Short Protocols in Molecular Biology". Does anyone have strong opinions one way or the other? It seems to me that the Short Protocols text covers a little bit wider range of topics. So, which of these is on your benchtop?

Sambrook (Molecular Cloning: A Lab Manual)

I have not heard of Ausubel.

A good book to have in the lab is Lab Math from CSHL. Not expensive either.
