dried SDS-PAGE - (Jan/24/2008 )

hi friends

is there any method to dry SDS-PAGE (8-10%) without breaking
not a special tool but I wonder that it is possible by the way heating in an etuv or others

There are some apparatus that dry by heating under vacuum. Fast and convenient
If you want to scan your gel and have a nice picture I would recommend you something like gelair dryer. It takes more time, and you need to incubate the gel in water plus 10% metOh and 3% glycerol to avoid gel cracking. But the dried gel is beautiful.

if you have no gel dryer, you may do the old method with using household preservation membrane (ususally for preservation of vegetable, fruits or jam); it must tightly be mounted in a frame and dried by air

I usualy put the gel in a 30% etOH solution with a bit of glicerol (not sure about the concentration though, I just pour a couple of mLs). I leave it in that solution overnight and then put the gel on a glass plate and cover it with what we call acetate paper. I really don't know the name in english... It's basically those transparent sheets, kind of like gled. In a couple of days the gel is fully dry.
