How many cells in a 400 micron thick hippocampal slice culture from a P8 rat? Rough estimate? Any guesses?

I dont have time to practice this, but you may go to a histology text book, or take one of your slide, count the total number of nuclei on that section, this will be like the number of cells in 5-10 um in thickness X whatever unit of surface area that you just counted. Then multiply by the volume of the tissue of your interest. See if that make any sense to you. A rough estimation only, right? give or take by a facotr of 5-fold error.
