question about glacial acetic acid - glacial acetic acid & acetic acid (Oct/09/2006 )
Hi,
I have a small question. Is there any difference between glacial acetic acid and glacial acetic ? Are they the same things?

Hi
I'm a bit confused by your post- the bit under the title and the actual msg are different.
But if you are asking the difference between glacial acetic acid and acetic acid then I'm pretty sure this is right:
Glacial acetic acid is "pure", something like 99.8%
acetic acid is the same thing, but not as pure- ie more dilute.
hope that helps ![]()

Lauralee is right. Pure acetic acid will solidify at just above 15 degrees C, so that in draughty labs in winter, it has a 'glacial' appearence. More dilute acetic acid remains liquid at such temperatures.
