Transfection Reagents - (Nov/15/2005 )

I noticed that most people use CaPO4 for transfection when they are making virus. Just being curious, is there a particular reason? Or it's just because CaPO4 is cheap.
I compared the transfection efficiency between CaPO4 and Fugene6, they are about the same.

As far as I know, most people use CaPO4 on 293(T) cells because it is indeed cheaper and as you say has about the same transfection efficiency as Fugene6 (or other reagents) on these cells.

it's the cheapest reagents, and you get about 80% transfection efficiency for 293 cells with this reagent.
