boss wants me to write a perl script to blast a query sequence in a large FASTA file, and gets report------as i am not experienced in perl programming, I know little about what to do! Please send me some advice!

I am using ActivePerl 5.6 installed on a windows XP OS, and have a blast program blast-2.2.6-ia32-win32.

and i do not have to establish a database, as the question formally asked. i think my problem are much simpler and could be easily solved, in case i got the right point.

Check bioperl.org (http://www.bioperl.org) and you will find some modules for this task so you may not need to reinvent the wheel.
