EMEM vs MEM - (Nov/28/2017 )

Hi,

Is there any difference between EMEM and MEM medium?

We need EMEM to culture our cell lines from EMEM from ATCC is quite expensive. I'm looking for alternative cost effective medium.

Many thanks

I think EMEM is a 2x recipe of MEM with extra vitamins and Earle's salts. You can't just substitute the media, but you can wean from one to another by slow replacement of EMEM with MEM over several passages. If you do this you need to monitor for changes in cell viability, growth rate, morphology, and biomarkers (especially ones you are interested in).

Powdered forms are usually a lot cheaper than buying the ones already made up, and ATCC tends to be more expensive than most other suppliers.
