Continuous growth of E. coli on AMP LB plate - (Feb/05/2013 )

Hi my LB AMP plates were streaked with transformed E.coli and colonies don't grow. Rather this creamy continuous film like lawn grows. I wonder if this is transformed E. coli or not...

It depends. If you streaked for isolation with a wire and ended up with a lawn, that's certainly mysterious. If you spread an aliquot of liquid with cells in it, then the lawn makes more sense. If that is the case, I suggest diluting your liquid sample with a bit of growth medium. Maybe try a few plates, at 1/10, 1/100, ect. Those would probably give distinct colonies.

Yes, my plates were spreads of liquid aliquots...I will try your dilution suggestion...Thank you!
